In 1967 they decided as a family to make a go of growing strawberries in a big way. They put in a large patch, and built a house on the farm in the same year. This attractive fruit caught on fast and proved to be very popular with the public.
Peter and Helen pioneered the u-pick operation in this area with their patch. Up to this point, u-pick was only permitted at the end of season when less damage to the crop was expected. Peter and Helen allowed the public into the patch when the crop was at its prime. The public loved it and people came from all over the province to pick at this patch.
Strawberries can still be enjoyed fresh off the plant to this day at our patch. We also have a great supply of our own fresh picked fruit at our market for those who prefer to pick them this way.
