Helpful Hints

SAVOURING RHUBARB -   Enjoy the stalks chopped and stewed in orange juice and maple syrup, then spooned over ice cream, cheesecake or waffles.  Yumm

Health Benefits

Preliminary research suggests that antioxidants in strawberries help stave off age-related mental decline and memory loss. Bursting with flavour, strawberries are also packed with cataract-preventing, heart-healthy and potentially cancer-fighting vitamins C and E.  And Ontario berries are regulated by the Dept. of Agriculture, and have no pesticide residues, compard to those from USA and Mexico, etc.

Storage Tips

Precautions

According to the Environmental Working Group in Washington, strawberries are the most pesticide-contaminted fruit in the US, where many berries found in grocery stores originate. If you're shopping for strawberries in a grocery store, look for berries from Millar Berry Farms to ensure they are of the highest quality and are free from pesticide residue. Always try to get berries from local growers, not from the US, if you are concerned about freshness and pesticide levels.

Information from the June 2002 issue of Chatelaine.
